Behavioral health provider expands treatment options for older adults and seniors
TUPELO, Miss. (Feb. 5, 2024) – Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo, a behavioral health provider focused on healing and long-term recovery, today announced the opening of its Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults 55 and older. The program will provide specialized mental health treatment for those managing depression, anxiety, substance use disorder and other behavioral health challenges.
Mississippi ranks last in the nation for access to mental health care, according to the 2023 Mental Health America report. Recognizing the need for flexible, high-quality behavioral health care options in the state, this new service allows individuals to manage their mental health while maintaining their current living arrangements.
“We believe the traditional inpatient setting isn’t always required to access the best care. Many people need the flexibility to balance their responsibilities while prioritizing their mental wellness,” said Veronica Keith, IOP director of Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo. “Our treatment program is ideal for individuals who seek high-quality care that also accommodates their busy lives.”
Each IOP treatment plan is tailored to the individual’s unique needs and progress. As the patient improves, they receive tools to support ongoing symptom management, and the frequency of counseling decreases while they transition to traditional outpatient treatment.
Oceans Behavioral Hospital Tupelo currently offers sessions Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The hospital also offers inpatient behavioral health treatment options for adolescents ages 12-17, older adults, and seniors 55 and older.
