New, freestanding hospital is now accepting adult patients
NORMAN, Okla. (June 6, 2024) – Norman Regional Health System and Oceans Healthcare today announced the opening of Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village, a new, state-of-the-art behavioral health hospital. The facility, located at 506 Wellness Way in Norman, greatly increases access to care in south-central Oklahoma and more than doubles Norman Regional Health System’s current inpatient capacity.
More than 53% of adults living with a mental health condition in Oklahoma went untreated last year, according to the 2023 Mental Health America report. Approximately 222,000 adults in the state also reported facing barriers when seeking the help they needed. The Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village aims to address these statistics by expanding access to mental health care in the Norman community.
“The Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village is the culmination of a shared vision of high-quality, accessible care, and we’re proud to see it come to fruition,” said Bill Southwick, hospital administrator. “We’re eager to see its impact and hope it allows more individuals in need to take the first step toward healing.”
The Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village provides inpatient treatment for patients 18 and older and dedicated care for seniors 55+. The joint venture will continue to augment the current behavioral health offerings in Norman in the coming months with the introduction of Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization Programs.
“The opening of this new resource is a big step toward addressing the urgent gaps that prevent so many individuals from receiving the care they need,” Southwick added. “We look forward to further expanding the treatment options offered in the Norman community and believe compassionate care should be accessible and possible for all.”
